What a day, what a day! The Hubs called me a couple of times at work over night to let me know that Monkey's fever weren't totally going away with Tylenol, plus he had started vomiting and having diarrhea. By the time I came home, he wasn't running a fever and was a little more playful. The Hubs went to lay him down for his nap and I laid down to get some sleep. The Hubs woke me up two hours later to show me that poor Monkey's feet were purple, his legs, arms, and stomach were mottled and he was running a high fever. We called his dr's office and they were able to get us in a few hours. By the time we got there, poor Monkey had spiked another temp and was just laying on us, awake but without any energy. He wasn't holding anything down and didn't really want to try. They gave him a 2 shots of antibiotic in his legs and we were planning on taking him home and trying to get him rehydrated with Pedialyte. Before we left, he developed a red rash around where he had gotten his shots and his temp was up to 103.6. His pediatrician thought it would be better for us to be admitted to the hospital for some IV fluids to rehydrate him. So for the second time in his 13 months, Monkey was admitted to the hospital. Our nurses and doctor were great but Monkey's veins weren't cooperating and despite several attempts, they couldn't get an IV started on him. They talked about putting an NG tube down to his stomach but by that point we were all pretty tired and Monkey had been through enough for one day. I ended up waking him up every hour or so to take 1-2 oz of pedialyte. By morning he was up to 4 ounces and keeping it down so we spent the rest of the day working his way up to 6 ounces of formula. We were able to go home that night and luckily Monkey was feeling a little better in time for Halloween!
