365: 173

Happy Halloween!
It was such a boo-tiful night that we set up some chairs in the drive way and a blanket in the yard for Monkey to play on. We saw all kinds of great costumes and are excited to take Monkey trick or treating next year when he's walking :).

Going home from the hospital Thursday night, Monkey was making come here motions with his hand like like "Lady, quit taking my picture and get in the car, I wanna go home!" We were all pretty excited to sleep in our own beds :).

What a day, what a day! The Hubs called me a couple of times at work over night to let me know that Monkey's fever weren't totally going away with Tylenol, plus he had started vomiting and having diarrhea. By the time I came home, he wasn't running a fever and was a little more playful. The Hubs went to lay him down for his nap and I laid down to get some sleep. The Hubs woke me up two hours later to show me that poor Monkey's feet were purple, his legs, arms, and stomach were mottled and he was running a high fever. We called his dr's office and they were able to get us in a few hours. By the time we got there, poor Monkey had spiked another temp and was just laying on us, awake but without any energy. He wasn't holding anything down and didn't really want to try. They gave him a 2 shots of antibiotic in his legs and we were planning on taking him home and trying to get him rehydrated with Pedialyte. Before we left, he developed a red rash around where he had gotten his shots and his temp was up to 103.6. His pediatrician thought it would be better for us to be admitted to the hospital for some IV fluids to rehydrate him. So for the second time in his 13 months, Monkey was admitted to the hospital. Our nurses and doctor were great but Monkey's veins weren't cooperating and despite several attempts, they couldn't get an IV started on him. They talked about putting an NG tube down to his stomach but by that point we were all pretty tired and Monkey had been through enough for one day. I ended up waking him up every hour or so to take 1-2 oz of pedialyte. By morning he was up to 4 ounces and keeping it down so we spent the rest of the day working his way up to 6 ounces of formula. We were able to go home that night and luckily Monkey was feeling a little better in time for Halloween!

I got off of work this morning and had been asleep for a few hours when I got a phone call from Monkey's daycare that he was running a temp of 103.4. Poor kiddo, this is his 5th week of dacycare and so far his first week was his only uneventful one (roseola, viral hives, being bitten, and now this!). The Hubs and I ended up taking him to walk in clinic and our room had this lovely picture on the wall:
The picture is of the J.C. Nichols Fountain where The Hubs and I got engaged and the photo was taken from almost the exact same spot where it happened :). Monkey was diagnosed with an ear infection and started an antibiotic. I went home and caught another hour of sleep before heading back to work.

It just happened that the unit secretary and I were discussing the number of admits involving sensitive areas of the male and female body when she pulled out this appropriately shaped Hot Tamale for the conversation we were having:
Dirty little tamale... (and on blog entry 169! The irony continues!)

Whewww...what a day! Last night The Hubs came down with a terrible case of food poisoning (luckily nothing I cooked!). He was feeling better this morning so we headed out to to see The Hubs' family for a nice little sunday meal. Monkey and I had fun playing with sidewalk chalk with Grandma B and cousin Goose:
It has been a little while since we saw my niece and nephew and although we'd heard about it, to was amazing to see little Blue Eyes toddling around. He is quite a walker!

The Hubs and I have a friendly college football rivalry, I love Kansas State and he likes Oklahoma. Since they were playing each other today I thought I would take advantage and get one more person on my side. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to win but it was a heck of a game (at least in the first half)! Monkey has been hitting the bottle harder since his molars are coming in, I'm afraid you can now tell he's put on some weight:
He loved the ball under his shirt until he tried to get up and cruise with it, then he was none too pleased :).

Today was a busy day but at the end of it, I am sitting here with a house full of clean carpet, mopped floors, rearranged and organized kitchen cabinets, and new dishes (very basic but indestructible, as I know from experience from my childhood since my mom has similar ones):
But you know what they say about all work and no play, so Monkey and I took the Hubs to our new favorite indoor playground. It is full of lots of crawling room, foam things to climb on, and soft places to fall when you aren't too steady
By the end of the day I had two very worn out guys on my hands :)

Since I wrote about it being girls night on my Facebook status, I have been singing this all day (this specific version actually!). We had a great time getting out nails done:
And Jenny (orange toes on the left) and her adorable little 7 month prego basketball belly provided the entertainment as we watched her belly vibrate from the massage chair :). After a yummy dinner at Cinzetti's, I was driving home when I saw one of my favorite "burned out letters" signs of all time:
Dr. Barn, paging Dr. Barn...

Oh no....not again!
Poor Monkey, it not enough that he is getting in his molars but he got bitten.
Again.
On the same cheek.
By a different kid!
The teacher though the other kid was going to give him a kiss...poor guy! Oh well, chicks dig scars, right :)?

I am one of those dorky people who love school supplies and could do a lot of damage in a place like Office Max :). One of my favorite things is getting a new calender and writing down all the birthdays, anniversaries, and such. I have a monthly calender I carry and would be completely lost without. Two years ago, my sister covered one with masking tape and drew all over it, I loved it! Last year I decided to make my own cover with scrapbook paper and cover it with clear box tape:
Since I already have meetings and stuff planned for January, I went out and get started on my new one for 2009:
The quote on the front is from the song that The Hubs and I danced to at our wedding, but I think it applies to both my boys: "Where was I before the day that I first saw your lovely face? Now I see it every day and I know that I am the luckiest," The Luckiest by Ben Folds.

What a day! Monkey went back to daycare today since he is almost completely over his viral hives (his splotches get bright red when is mad though!). I took advantage of the day by picking up the house and heading to the walk-in clinic since I felt one of my monumental sinus infections coming on. Sure enough, I have a sinus infection and ear infections in both ears. The Hubs also has an ear infection...I feel like we're all just falling apart :). The good news is that I got put on call at work, which is my first time since I started there 4 years ago! When I went to pick Monkey up from daycare they told me about his unpleasantness:
One of his little classmates thought those chubby little cheeks looked tasty and tried to take a bite of them! Poor guy, he's got a nice little bite mark just in time for Halloween :).

Multi-tasking when you are 12 months old:
Holding drum stick in one hand, ball in the other, plastic lid clenched in teeth, all while leaning over a toy that makes your hair blow in the breeze :).

And SOMEONE got caught forgetting that he can stand without holding on to something:

Although still a little spotted, especially on his tummy, arms, and legs, Monkey is on the mend and looking much better today. Wheww :)!

365: 160

The Hubs called me at 5 a.m. while I was at work and reported that Monkey's viral rash got much worse overnight, so I had him bring Monkey to the ER of the hospital I work at. I got off of my 12 hour shift and met them downstairs. Poor Monkey looked awful, he had a huge red welt on his forehead, his legs were mottled and purple under his red rash areas and he was running a temp. Again, the doctor said it is just a virus and he should get over it in a few days. The most reassuring thing is that despite his poor appetite and the itching, Monkey really has been a happy little guy through this whole thing.

365: 159

Poor Monkey, almost a week after our run in with Roseola, he woke up with this morning with a few red marks on his face, under his arms, and in his diaper area. Back we went to the Urgent Care and they said that he had a viral form of hives. I was completely confused, I know I get hives as an allergic reaction to raspberries, but I thought that hives were related to allergies. There was nothing to do but give him Benadryl, tylenol for his fever, and just give him lots of snuggle and play time. He got a few more spots on his arms and legs, but still nothing that looked like hives to me. I hated leaving him and The Hubs to head to work tonight, but I knew Monkey was in good hands :)

365: 158

Web cams and Skype are pretty darn amazing :). Tonight I got to sit on my sister's desk via her laptop and talk to her while she did her homework. I also got to meet her roommate, Merrrrrrdith, who missed her calling in life as a hand model. It's so amazing to be so far apart but be able to talk and see one another like we are right across the table from each other. Thank goodness for technology :)!

365: 157

Today I had a work meeting downtown
Had a great lunch with friends:And got my hair cut:
Okay, the new 'do isn't that bad, it's just a lot shorter than I was expecting and I am going through my 2 week "getting to know you and learn how to style you" phase with it :)
Overall, a pretty great day!

365: 156

Do you ever those pictures of yourself when you think "Why didn't someone tell me I have 4 chins and bad acne? I shouldn't be let out of the house!" and others when you think "Okay, if this is what I look like, I am okay with that."? Luckily, this is one of the latter for me, even if Monkey is trying to eat a Mr. Potatoe Head hat :).

365: 155

Monkey got this hilarious Chatters Elmo toy from Quasi-Aunt Erin and Quasi-Uncle Ben for his birthday and I don't know who enjoys it more, us or him :). When you shake him , he says different things like "Shake it up" and "La La La" saying a different word each time his head goes back. We enjoy "Yahooooeee" and "Yippeekiyyiyeah!" I am a little fearful of the stage when Monkey becomes attached to cartoon characters and we have to watch endless hours of Elmo's World :).

365: 154

It is a beautiful lazy fall afternoon, so we opened all the windows and air the house out. The cats loved being in the sunshine and sharing Monkey's favorite passtime of playing "Neighborhood Watch" :). It is nice to just enjoy some time with my favorite boys before heading off to work tonight :).

365: 153

Poor Monkey went to bed with what I thought was a slight diaper rash flare up and woke up Saturday morning completely covered in a fine, pin point rash. He'd been running a fever earlier in the week and started on an antibiotic for an ear infection. We ended up taking him to the Urgent care that evening when it got worse and found out he had Roseola Infantum, a common virus I had never heard of. The rash looked terrible but it didn't bother him in the least. We headed home for some snuggling and Monkey was himself again by Sunday evening :). (I didn't get a picture of his rash, so this one is a borrowed picture of someone else's cute little baby tummy!)

Today we met up with our awesome photographer, Melissa, at Loose Park in Kansas City. It was our first time seeing the park and it was a perfect day for it! The weather was great fall weather and some of the trees were starting to turn. Monkey did great despite his lack of an afternoon nap and I can't wait to see how her pictures turned out! We took some of our own pictures afterward and then met up with the The Hubs and my in-laws for dinner. All in all, it was a pretty perfect day :).

Stop what you are doing right now and check out this you tube video, Malaise de L'Orange!
You'll laugh:
You'll cry:You may very well never look at fruit the same way again:Plus it had a great soundtrack. Now off with you...go on now, go!

The Hubs and I have usually made our trip to Marion Lane Candles by now and stocked up for fall, but since I had been working weekends we haven't made the trip yet. Marion Lane Candles is a little shop in downtown Topeka that hand pours all of their candles and have great scents like Man in a Jar and Bar-b-que (didn't buy that one, but it did smell just like it!). Luckily they have online shopping this year so I could order some since we are getting low:

365: 149

Every year around this time, the great debate begins,
The Hubs with a beard: or without a beard?
Either way, I think he's pretty darn cute :).

365: 148

I caught myself thinking "Wow, gas is ONLY $2.99!" and then I got a little nostalgic for the days when gas was $1.00 a gallon. But nothing will make your day on your drive home like a giant gorilla advertising a costume store :)! People in marketing need to realize that giant inflatable animals are way underutilized as a marking ploy....
